W+B presents to Beta Alpha Psi
March 12, 2012
Akron, OhioMarch 12, 2012 — On Thursday, February 23, 2012, Akron CPA firm Winer+Bevilacqua, Inc. visited Kent State University to present to over 50 students in the Beta Alpha Psi organization.
Beta Alpha Psi is a national honorary organization for financial information students and professionals. The organization’s primary objective is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.
By promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems, as well as providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, Beta Alpha Psi seeks to encourage a sense of ethical, social and public responsibility.
Held on the Kent State campus in the Business Administration Building, Winer+Bevilacqua presented on a variety of topics aimed at providing students with insights on how to best prepare themselves for the accounting world.
Winer+Bevilacqua Founder and Partner Ronald R. Winer spoke about the formation and early years of the firm and contrasted that experience with what students should expect in today’s marketplace.
“It’s important that students who are entering the accounting field understand the ongoing shifts and trends that accompany starting one’s own practice,” Winer said. “And particularly so for students who are thinking of starting their own firm. Providing them with insights into the way things used to be and comparing that with how the world operates now gives them greater context so they’ll be better prepared.”
W+B Partner and Tax Manager John R. Cassiday II presented on IRS audits, particularly how and why they occur, as well as how students should prepare for and guide their clients through them.
“Winer+Bevilacqua is a one-stop shop for all kinds of financial services, and tax support and representation is one of the most heavily used in our client base,” Cassiday said. “As part of the next market influx of accounting professionals, giving these students as much information as possible regarding tax legislation, regulation changes and best practices helps them be better prepared, and demonstrates our commitment to being an active part of our community.”
After the presentation, Winer+Bevilacqua held a Q&A session with students to provide them with insights into managing a variety of financial and tax-related issues.
“We love engaging with today’s young minds,” Winer said. “Being able to give back in this way helps us nurture what is essentially the future of our industry. It’ll be interesting to see how these students take what we’ve discussed here tonight and apply it to their studies and their future careers. We’ll be able to tell by how strong this industry is in the years ahead.”
